poly(2-hydroxylpropyl)viologen (PIPV) andpolypropylviologen (PPrV) have been synthesized by Menschutkin reaction.Thesynthesis rate of PACV is the fastest. The chemical reduction and photoreduc-tion of these substituted polypropylviologens in dilute aqueous solution havebeen studied. It has been found that the photoreduction rate of PACV in solutionis much higher and the produced radical cations of both PIPV and PPrV existin associated form.Howver
the photoreduction rates of these poylviologens inPVA film state are almost the same
and three kinds of the radical cationsexist in associated form.Obviously
the chemical reduction and photoreductionbehavior are related to the structure of monomers and polymers.
