trees of Csmellia ptilophylla Chang transplanted from original area were surveyed for their purine alkaloids and the results showed that 30 of the trees contained theobromine but 4 of them did caffeine as predominant purine alkaloids.Intra individual variation of punrine alkaloids from one particular tree over a period of April to October in two years showed that theobromine as predominant purine alkaliod didn’t change after it was transphanted 1988.Intra species and intra individual variations of purine alkaloids showed that wild C.ptiophylla population is possibly not pure.To introduce real trees of C.ptiophylla contained theobromine as predominant purine alkaloid

it is neceassary the trees introduced must be detected for their purine alkaloids.The variations of purine alkaloids of C.ptilophylla must be continuously investigated.
